Experience the strong bond between musher and dogs, which in many ways is the core of what dog sledding is really about. No matter how excited you´ll be about this tour, one thing is for sure: the huskies will be even more happy to go for a long run!
Discover Langsua, the newest of the Norwegian National Parks. This stunning wilderness area holds both rough alpine terrain, lower vast areas of boreal forest and thousands of lakes and streams. The National park and the protected areas surrounding it summons up to more than 1000 km2! These settings provide us with the perfect arena for long winter dog sledding tours.
Tour description
Day 1
We emphasize the importance for a musher to know the dogs before going on a tour. Therefore, on this first day we´ll focus on getting acquainted with your new four-legged friends. Cuddle with them, feed them and get a glimpse of their unique personality. Prepare your own sled dog team, harnessing of the dogs, attaching them to the right positions on the lines, etc. All under the supervision of the tour leader. Once everything is ready, and the last preparations and equipment check is done, we´ll go for a full day of dog sledding. The terrain is a combination of deep and old forest, vast open wetlands, up and down various hills and frozen lake crossongs. You´ll get to understand the handling of the sledge and learn all the basics of dog sledding.
You´ll spend this first night in a private wilderness cabin at our Husky Camp.
Day 2, 3 and 4
We´re now ready to head deeper into the mountains of Norway and put Our new skills to the test. The sledges & equipment is ready since the previous day and we can effectively get ready for the tour. There´s a short transport to the starting point. Once there, we are off towards Langsua National Park and the surrounding areas.
With the help of the huskies we travel at the pace of nature as we climb towards Skredalen and Langsukollen. In the national park, pure and unspoiled nature awaits us. Tracks of fox, moose, lynx, wolverine and reindeer are likely to be seen, as well as a rare glimpse of the animals themselves.
We travel as a team, covering an average distances of 20-40 kms per day. Each participant is responsible for him/herself, his/her dogs, the sled and equipment. All under supervision from an experienced tour leader. The dogs are not machines as they need constact caretaking and contact. You are likely to get one or many new best friends. That´s the beauty of dog sledding!
Everybody will participate in the common tasks like heating the shelters, melting snow for water, feeding the dogs and cooking dinner.
We´ll be back at the Beito Husky Camp in the afternoon of day 4. Probably tired but for sure richer in friends, knowledge and experiences!
We reccomend
After four days in the wilderness, you´ll be probably tired. That´s why we think it´s a good idea to stay ovenright in the area, before heading back home. Beitostølen is a charming mountain resort area with a wide offer of hotels, restaurants and facilities. Relax in the pool in Radisson Blu Resort, enjoy a gourmet dinner in a Mountain Lodge outside town or spend the night in an unique design boutique hotell. Contact us for advice!
