Tour Program
Can you imagine spending a couple of hours in the snow covered mountains around Beitostølen, with a bunch of happy and hard working huskies in front of your sled? Then the Husky Stars sledding tour is perfect for you. This guided tour is named in honor of one of our first dogs.
The tour is suitable for most people including small children. Bring all your friends and family. No previous experience is needed! If you don't want to steer your own team you can choose to join as a passenger sitting comfortably on warm reindeer skins in the sled. Let us know beforehand if that´s the case, so we can prepare accordingly.
Learn all about sled dogs and dog sledding. Ask your guide anything you ever wondered about this sport.
Come meet us and our wonderful huskies!
MEETING POINT (!!)
Meet up at the designated time for the tour on your booking confirmation.
Unless anything else is agreed, meeting point is at Garli parking, Garlislette 3, 2953 Beitostølen. This tour doesn't start from our facilities.
Your guide will meet you at the meeting point outdoors area.
Out of respect for the program and for the other guests, please make sure to be at the meeting point on time! Arriving late will be considered no-show, without refund.
ABOUT THE ACTIVITY
This tour is planned as a complete hands-on experience. You will learn how to DRIVE YOUR OWN DOG TEAM and take part in preparations. If you are hesitant about handling the sled, let us know and we can evaluate together.
An experienced guide will give you a safety briefing and all the instructions you need. She/he will always be driving the first team. The rest of the teams will follow by instinct. Normally 2-3 persons will share a sled pulled by 4-6 dogs depending on the current snow conditions. You will change between steering and sitting in the sled.
DRESSING CODE
Dog sledding is a sport where the level of activity varies a lot. Sometimes you´ll have to help the dogs by kicking or pushing the sled, at times you will be more static. To get the best out of the experience, follow these recommendations:
- Use an inner layer of breathable material, including socks. We recommend wool. Cotton should be avoided.
- Middle layer of thicker wool or fleece that you can easily take off/open if needed.
- Outer layer of windproof/waterproof material. Winter boots shouldn't be tight, as the warm air between your feet and the boot fabric is keeping your feet warm.
- Use quality warm and windproof hat and mittens (warmer than finger gloves)
We do not have winter clothes or boots for you to borrow.
Parents are required to make sure their children are well equipped for this Winter experience.
What to bring
DON’T FORGET
As for all winter activities, it´s important to dress appropriately to match the norwegian winter weather conditions.
Check out our advices on How to dress
Feel free to bring any extra snacks and refreshments for you. Please, restrain from bringing any food /treats for the dogs. Previous experience not needed for joining this tour.
To be able to steer your own sledge, all you need is an average physical condition.
